UP NISMED offers training package for teachers, instructional leaders

Aimed at enhancing the capabilities of Mathematics teachers in designing and integrating GeoGebra-based learning resources into their teaching practices and and at length capacitating the teachers to respond to the need for improved students’ mathematical thinking and digital literacy skills as highlighted in the New DepEd Mathematics Curriculum and in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the University of the Philippines National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (UP NISMED) partnered up with SDO Masbate City in providing training package on Enhancing Teachers’ Capabilities to Teach New High School Mathematics Curriculum in Digital Environment for secondary teachers and instructional leaders.

The first course of the training package which centered on “Introducing Digital Literacy in Mathematics Education”, which focused on helping teachers understand the goal of the Department of Education Mathematics Curriculum Framework for Grades 7-10 learners by connecting it with research-based framework, Mathematics Discourse Framework (MDF), was conducted March 13-5 and March 17-18, 2025 respectively at SDO Masbate City Conference Hall and this was participated in by high teachers and Public Schools District Supervisors.

Initially, the participants were engaged with GeoGebra activities, taking on the role of students to navigate and explore the software’s capabilities. Such approach allowed the teachers to experience firsthand how GeoGebra could facilitate understanding and engagement in mathematical concepts.

Seasoned professors from UP NISMED Dr. Erlina R. Ronda, Science Education Specialist V, Ms. Haidee P. Rosete, Science Education Specialist II, Ms. Abigail B. Gonzales, Science Education Specialist I , and Ms. Mary Grace R. Macacua, Science Education Associate I served as resource persons.

City DepEd holds athletic competitions

The Schools Division of Masbate is currently holding this year’s City Meet across various venues, including Masbate Athletic Ground, Masbate Colleges, Masbate National Comprehensive High School, Nursery Elementary School, Restituta Z. Medina Elementary School, Osmeña Colleges, F. Magallanes Covered Court, and Masbate City Gaisano Capital, Feb. 28 - March 2, 2025.

Elementary and secondary student-athletes are showcasing their skills and determination in a range of individual and team sports, including soccer, volleyball, badminton, arnis, sepak takraw, wrestling, table tennis, dancesport, pencat selat, and track and field, among others.

Victorious athletes and coaches will advance to the Palarong Bicol, set for March 20-28, 2025, in Legazpi City.

The three-day event is spearheaded by Division Sports Officer (DSO) SEPS Gerard Leomel R. Estoquia, EPS II Kenneth Lim, tournament managers, coaches, teachers, and school heads, with support from Public Schools District Supervisors, DepEd doctors and nurses, SDO Masbate City top management SDS Nelson S. Morales Jr, ASDS Joy G. Cabrera, SGOD Chief Gregorio A. Legal, CID Chief Francy R. Valdemoro, other division office personnel, and the City Government of Masbate led by Hon. Mayor Socrates M. Tuason.
