Following a mandate from Department of Education Central Office, the advocacy conference- dialogue between the representatives from the Division of City Schools, Masbate City and the Association of Barangay Chairmen (ABC) along K to 12, focused on Senior High School was conducted on May 19, 2015 at the city government conference hall.

20150519_094404-1400              Hon. Socrates M. Tuason, the liga president, presided the session with all 30 barangay chairmen in attendance.

The advocacy campaign started with the brief discussion of Mr. Noel D. Logronio, Chief Education Supervisor, Curriculum Implementation Division on the backgrounder of K to 12, emphasizing Republic Act 10533 which is the Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum, the legal basis, the vision and mission, the DepEd and governments’ declaration policy, the benefits of K to 12, among others.

Schools Division Superintendent, Nene R. Merioles clearly discussed through a powerpoint presentation all the salient points specifically the Senior High School Plan and Report which features schools to offer SHS, tracks and strands offerings, projected enrolment, teacher qualifications, voucher programs, private schools issues, academic classroom and laboratory workshop needs, teacher need as well as other related issues.

All clarificatory questions were addressed by DepEd representatives while brochures on the frequently asked questions about K to 12 were distributed to all barangay chairmen.

Hon. Tuason expressed his commitment of support to K to 12 in behalf of the ABC and thanked Supt. Merioles for the initiative on the advocacy. Hon. Tuason and most of the barangay chairmen gladly said, “Napakaganda pala ng K to 12 at Senior High School. Maaari pa ba kaming mag enrol sa SHS?”

The next step of the advocacy is the Barangay Forum which will be conducted in all barangays. All schools in coordination with all the barangays will spearhead this event while education supervisors and public schools district supervisors together with the superintendent and school heads will do the discussion of K to 12 and Senior High School. The barangay forum is a prelude to the scheduled K to 12 week which will culminate with a K to 12 Summit on the last week of June.

Superintendent Merioles further said that K to 12 and SHS advocacy will be a continuous activity of the city division office of Masbate City.
