Some three decades ago, we were under the rule of Martial Law.
It was known to be the Dark Ages. If you have watched the movie titled “Lord Of The Rings”, you can dig deeper into their fight for justice and freedom. It is almost the same as Martial Law, where it is lawless, and ten thousand end up dead and missing for too long one can’t even remember. Anyone who speaks against the dictator is taken against their will. Tortured till their last breath and caused them unfathomable pain. We can even compare the tragedies of the Holocaust to that of the Martial Law.
Up to this date, there are still those who lived to retell the gory stories of the Marcos regime. So many things can be said and proven by history and written works that indeed, there was no Golden Era in his time. While they pillage the country’s wealth and drown in debt– there the First family dances their many nights away. Singing and puffing their pockets with money. Truly, a show-off of them can swindle us and waste the funds in just ONE NIGHT! Have you heard of the different celebrities, powerful individuals, and even royalties they invited at our expense? Have you read somewhere, the one sane person questioning the first daughter only to end up dead in the morning? Have you heard of the billions they took from our coffers and wound up in their personal Swiss accounts?
Of course, they built buildings and bridges and loaned a lot but ended up in our national debt because the couple has no plans to pay it all to which by the way have to pay until 2025.
You should know. Each one of us should keep in mind and root to the core the very thing that destroyed our nation and dragged us to the mud. Especially in this time of Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and other social media that blatantly spread fake news.
Widespread disinformation has caused revisions that more people now think the Martial Law was carried out by the late Ferdinand Marcos Sr. to prevent the worsening conflict of the government with the CPP-NPA. And that it had to be enforced to fight the increasing number of members that are signing up for its cause. Well, when the Marcos family was ousted after the EDSA People Power, manifestations in court proved that certain government officials maneuvered the events which have led to the eventualities and ended the Martial Law.
Thus, giving back our freedom and dignity. But is it really democracy that was brought back to the people or only the start of a more intrinsic problem?
In the spring of new hope, a new constitution was drafted and left out the historical revisionism. By far, people are bombarded with false information and fake news as of late. And it hurts to know that the new minds are easily swayed and even those who were alive at that time failed to educate the youth. As much as it is saddening, maddening awe in how they believe the falsity. In spite of this, we should fight it. And maybe after the 2022 election, there should be a law that punishes revisionism.
